Earth Day Mix

1. Visit

Brooklyn Botanical Garden

2. Watch
On the Beach, 1959
Cold War "what if" scenario starring Gregory Peck (dashing, stoic), Ava Gardner (passionate, stunning) and Fred Astaire (contemplative and not dancing).

A great example of how lightness must be paired with heaviness for complex expression

3. Wonder

4. Read

About Grace, Anthony Doerr
2004
I love Doerr's attention to the metaphorical implications of the natural world. The protagonist understands rain, flooding, ice, storms, etc. scientifically, as the reader starts to understand them emotionally.

5. Eat

I'm totally obsessed with raw kale salads, more nutrition than salad greens and easier than cooking kale!! Just remember to only use tender or young kale- the old tough stuff will not be as pleasant.

6. Listen / Watch

Video for Ida Walked Away by AU off of their latest (amazing) release Versions, 2009

7. Sacrifice

Stravinsky's Rite of Spring

Talent Show: NYC Reincarnation

Soooo, the first A Part / Apart Talent Show in Portland, OR was a really surprising, fun, bizarre event...

I would love to do it again in NYC.

The premise:

Perform, present, show something that you normally don't do or have been wanting to learn for ages.

This is your opportunity to hone that skill, that oddity, that dance move you have been meaning to since you were like 12 or since you have read this...

either way, I really want to make this happen and need a core of committed participants to make it happen.

Don't worry, it will be quite informal, just another room of people staring, silently judging and applauding either way.

Oh, and lots of cookies and punch.
